The Daniel Sprong era is over in Pittsburgh.

Sprong has been traded to the Anaheim Ducks in-exchange for left handed defenseman Marcus Pettersson.

Pettersson a 2014 2nd round pick, has totaled 1 goal and 9 assists in 49 career NHL games

Pettersson, 22,  a left shot defenseman, has appeared in 27 games for the Ducks this season playing a third pairing role in averaging 14 minutes a game.

This move doesn’t address the Penguins desperate need for a top-4 defenseman, notably a RH d-man but Pettersson fits the mold of a puck moving defenseman who moved the puck well and is effective at joining the rush, at least giving the potential to being an upside addition down the road for a player who had no long-term role in Pittsburgh as long as Mike Sullivan is the coach .
