Latest Penguins Free Agency Buzz
There hasn’t been a draft weekend in the Sidney Crosby era that saw the Penguins be in on pretty much nothing on the trade front like they were this past week where little was percolating around the Penguins.
As one source joked, ‘Welcome to the Ron Hextall Era’.
As stated weeks ago, the days of Jim Rutherford putting the Penguins in on everything is over. However, it was still something to see how dead quiet it was on the Penguins end after the losses of Jared McCann and Brandon Tanev upfront in a span of a couple days.
Penguins’ General Manager Ron Hextall had made it a priority internally of trying to toe the line of moving salary without having to trade futures (high draft picks and higher end prospects) which saw the Penguins take the route they did with McCann and then exposing a Brandon Tanev, while others around the league have gone much more bold.
As the Penguins have quickly found out this summer, attempting to move Marcus Pettersson’s cap hit without attaching a high pick or taking salary back is some tough sledding in a flat cap world for at least the next three seasons. The Penguins have also been said to be hesitant to include future assets for any major roster overhaul this summer.
While the Penguins were eerily quiet last week on the trade front over the last week, whispers around the league have the Penguins behind the scenes trying to line up some deals at the opening of free agency.
Two particular targets have emerged, according to multiple NHL sources.

Saad/Bogosian or McGinn/Fedun. Same difference haha. Nice job Hextall, you mediocre dipshit.
There are teams out there who could use Jason Zucker or MP ! -Winnipeg screams defense with all the departures on defense over the last couple years. Teams that can use defense Winnipeg, Edmonton (lost Klefboom, Larsson and possibly Tyson Barrie) Detroit, Anaheim, Los Angeles Kings, Columbus, Arizona trying to get to the cap floor. (lost OEL, Hjlarmarsson retired and they let Gologoski walk) Jason Zucker is a 6 time 20 goal scorer, and yes he didn’t reach his potential in Pittsburgh, he is slightly over paid, but is still a fast and skilled player. Teams that can use a… Read more »
Fine with both of these, provided Saad doesn’t get over 5 per and Bogosian is making at or near vet minimum. Itd be filling a top 6 winger need and adding some defensive depth while getting a little tougher. Granted, Saad isn’t Cam Atkinson tough, but he plays a physical game.
You are such an idiot…
Oh time for your bingo game numb nuts !!
So how do we sign Saad and still man a 23 man roster?? Unless we move Zucker or MP I’m not buying it.
They’d have to fill the holes with ELCs or vet minimum contracts. ZAR would probably get priced out, but i’m ok with that.
GOALIE!!!!
Both would be good I have always liked Saad…
