Penn State’s offense¬†rolled up 548 total yards and Evan Royster ran for 100 yards on 12 carries as #17 Penn State had no problem with Syracuse. This game was decided in the first quarter as Penn State spoiled a day to celebrate Syracuse’s undefeated 1959 team.

The game started with momentum switching from team to team on seemingly each snap. The Nittany Lions started the game with Royster going off tackle for 9 yards and then the fun started. Daryll Clark dropped back and fumbled as he rolled to his left. Syracuse recovered the fumble but gave the ball right back on the ensuing play. A backward pass was never completed and Penn State jumped on the loose ball to send the offense back on the field. Clark completed a pass to Jordan Norwood who made a move back to the inside to elude two defensive backs and complete the 55-yard touchdown pass. After a three-and-out for Syracuse, Penn State methodically moved the ball down the field leading up to a 17-yard touchdown pass to Deon Butler. Another three-and-out by Syracuse¬†lead to Penn State’s next touchdown. Mixing the run and pass, the Nittany Lions chewed¬†up 62 yards on 10 plays and capped the drive with a 1-yard fullback dive by Dan Lawlor.
Penn State was credited with ten players having a rushing attempt and eight players have at least one reception. On the other side of the ball, the Penn State defense held Syracuse to 160 total yards and only 48 yards on the ground. Syracuse got their only touchdown in the third quarter but by that time the touchdown made the score 45-13.
