MORNING SKATE BUZZ
— Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma will go back to Marc Andre Fleury in goal tonight vs the New York Islanders. Fleury was pulled out of Tuesday night’s game, giving up 5 goals on 18 shots. The Penguins are carrying three goaltenders on the road trip. The team is in back to back situations, facing Buffalo tomorrow night.
— Joe Vitale skated for the second straight day, participating in the Penguins optional skate. Vitale is likely to return to game action this weekend.
— Defenseman Matt Niskanen did travel with the team and participated in the optional skate. As of yesterday, Niskanen wasn’t expected to join the team on the trip. He’s not ready to return to the lineup just yet.
Kris Letang remains back in Pittsburgh and will miss at least the next two games.
— Pascal Dupuis enters tonight’s game on an 11 game points streak. He has 2 goals and 6 assists against the Islanders this season.
Al Montoya is expected to be back in the Islanders net after stopping 21 of 22 shots Tuesday night, while replacing Evgeni Nabokov who suffered a lower body injury. Nabokov won’t be an option to play tonight.
— The Penguins trail the New York Rangers by five points with a game in hand. Pittsburgh has just a four point lead over the Philadelphia Flyers for the No. 4 seed. The Flyers are on the road in Toronto tonight to face the Leafs.
