Draft Day Update
Pens GM Ray Shero met today with Ben Hankinson the agent for Jordan Leopold at a Los Angeles hotel. The Penguins continue to touch base with Leopold’s camp as Leopold remains plan B behind Sergei Gonchar.
With 6 days until free agency, Leopold’s status though with the Penguins remains in limbo.
According to a source close to the situation, negotiations between the two sides are still on hold until Gonchar decides on whether he will return to Pittsburgh. That’s the indication Leopold’s camp has been given.
Leopold, 29, made $1.75 million last season and is believed to be a priority over Mark Eaton.
No talks have yet to take place between Shero and Stephen Bartlett the agent for Eaton. Bartlett told me earlier in the week that he expected to talk with Shero in LA.
