The Pittsburgh Penguins are intensifying their efforts to resign winger Arron Asham, sources told Inside Pittsburgh Sports this morning.

Asham who was not believed to be in the Penguins plans (things change quickly), is now back on the Penguins radar as talks with Mike Rupp are believed to be going south.
However, the Penguins have not officially ruled out resigning Rupp but reportedly have informed all teams that Rupp’s rights are in play, according to RDS.CA. (working to confirm).
Asham’s camp first spoke with the Penguins during draft weekend and had been preparing for Asham to hit the open market on July 1. It’s not clear yet whether they intend to alter that plan with the Penguins making a late push.
As early as Monday of this week, Asham’s reps at Titan Sports Management were not expecting the Penguins to make an offer before July 1, based on conversations with Penguins brass.
Asham made $700,000 last season, taking less money to chase a Stanley Cup.
