Pirates 1-6 hitters go a combined 1-for-21 in 4-0 loss to Giants

*Former Pirate Ryan Vogelsong (3-4, 5.58 ERA) threw eight shutout innings, as the San Francisco Giants (58-72) beat the Pittsburgh Pirates (76-54) 4-0 on Sunday afternoon to split the two-game series. Vogelsong allowed 2 hits and struck out 5 and walked one in a dominant outing. Rounding back into form, Vogelsong has allowed 2 earned runs in his last 15 innings pitched and Vogelsong has an 2.55 ERA in four starts since coming off the disabled list in August.
*The Pirates bats were silent and it started at the top of the order. The Pirates 1-6 hitters, Jose Tabata (0-4), Neil Walker (0-4), Andrew McCutchen (1-4), Pedro Alvarez (0-3), Russell Martin (0-3), Garrett Jones (0-3) went a combined 1-for-21 in the loss.
*A.J. Burnett (6-9, 3.18 ERA) took the loss, allowing 8 hits and 4 earned runs in 7.1 innings pitched.
*The Pirates (76-54), Cardinals (76-54) and Reds (74-57) all lost today as the NL Central race remains unchanged with Pittsburgh and St. Louis tied for first and Cincinnati 2.5 games back.
