The Pittsburgh Pirates today agreed to terms with the following players on minor league contracts with an invitation to spring training.
Brian Bass (RHP) - Spent the 2009 season with Baltimore, where he went 5-3 with a 4.90 ERA (86.1ip/47er) in 48 relief appearances. Finished second among American League relievers in innings pitched.
Luke Carlin (C) - Spent a majority of the 2009 campaign with Reno (Diamondbacks' AAA) while also having two stints with Arizona. Was a member of Team Canada in the 2009 World Baseball Classic and threw out 16-of-45 (35.6 percent) of runners attempting to steal against him while playing with Reno. Has played a total of 46 games in the big leagues with San Diego (2008) and Arizona (2009).
Brian Myrow (OF) - Hit a combined .307 (112-for-365) with 22 doubles, 15 home runs and 59 RBI in 110 games between Charlotte (White Sox' AAA) and Indianapolis in 2009. Myrow Led Indianapolis in batting average (.330), on-base percentage (.448) slugging percentage (.515) and walks (43). Has played in a total of 52 games in the big leagues with the Dodgers (2005) and Padres (2007-08).
The Pirates have now agreed to terms with 19 minor league free agents with an invitation to spring training.
