Ubaldo Jimenez's put on a dominating performance Wednesday night, thowing a three hitter in eight innings pitched, as the Colorado Rockies (63-51) beat the Pittsburgh Pirates (46-67) 8-0 on Wednesday night.
Jimenez (10-9) threw 119 pitches, striking out 6 and walking 4 and was hitting 97-98 mph on the radar.
The win was Jimenez's 4th straight decision and his 20th consecutive outing in which he's gone six or more innings. Rockies manager Jim Tracy praised Jimenez following Wednesday night's win.
"I don't think there's too many pitchers in the American or National leagues that can go out there virtually every fifth day and do that," Tracy said. "If there are, the list is very short. that is a real statement."
Pirates starter Kevin Hart (3-2), in his second start since being acquired by the Pirates from the Chicago Cubs on July 30, struggled early giving up a two run homer to Carlos Gonzalez in the first inning.
Hart allowed five runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.
The Pirates fall to 46-67 on the season.
