The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed 32 year old outfielder Matt Diaz to a 2 year deal with the total worth of the contract close to $5 million, according to an industry source. Ken Rosenthal of Foxsports first reported the deal.

Diaz, 32, hit .250 last season with 7 home runs and 31 RBI’s in 84 games last season. In 2009, Diaz batted .313 with 13 home runs and 58 RBI’s in 125 games. There was a strong market for Diaz who projects to platoon in the outfield and can also play first base.
He bats right handed and the Pirates see him as an asset against left handed pitching. Diaz is a career .335 hitter against left handers.
