The Pittsburgh Pirates have the framework of a one year deal about finalized with free agent pitcher Scott Olsen. An agreement between the two sides has been reached and the only aspect of the contract that the two sides are still working on is the incentives.
The deal will be worth $1 million per season with an undetermined amount of escalators in the contract.
Olsen, 28, was 4-8 with a 5.56 ERA in 15 starts last season for the Washington Nationals. The left hander has been limited to 28 games and 26 starts over the past two seasons.
The Pirates did an extensive background check into Olsen who has been considered a….

cancer in the clubhouse. One scout called him a “nutcase” and an “idiot” when I asked about Olsen Saturday night as word has been leaking that the Pirates were inching closer to a deal.
John Perrotto will have more on Olsen later today from the Winter Meetings in Florida.
