Andrew McCutchen, Neil Walker, Jordy Mercer and Gerrit Cole all homered and the Pirates pounded 19 hits to complete a three game sweep of the Chicago Cubs with a 10-4 win over the Cubs on Sunday afternoon. The Pirates outscored the Cubs 20-7 during the series.
The three game sweep of the Cubs and a lose by the Brewers has moved the Pirates into sole possession of the second wildcard spot.
If the playoffs ended today, the wild card (play in-game) playoff game would be Pittsburgh traveling to San Francisco. Pittsburgh won the season series, 4-2, against the Giants.
