Pirates pursuing a Bat
The Pittsburgh Pirates have expressed an interest in former power hitting first baseman Lance Berkman.

Berkman tells Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle that the Pirates are among several teams who have been kicking the tires on the 34 year old.
“There’s been a lot of interest — Cardinals, Cubs, Rockies, A’s, Pirates, Blue Jays, a bunch of teams, Berkman said. ” I haven’t had a single offer in terms of X amount of dollars, but I think this is the time of the year when there’s a lot of tire-kicking”
Berkman is said to be interested in playing outfield or first base, while AL teams are targeting him to be a DH.
The Pirates are in the market to add a bat and even made an early inquiry Adrian Beltre. The Pirates though are a longshot to land Berkman as he is said to be looking to join a contender.
Berkman hit .248 last season with 14 home runs and 58 RBI’s with the New York Yankees and Houston Astros last season.
