On the trade front, the Pirates have not emerged emerged as players for front-line starting pitchers Zach Greinke, Cole Hamels or Ryan Dempster and don't expect them to at any point leading into the July 31st deadline.
While the Pirates covet a front-line starting pitcher, they're showing no interest in giving up assets for a rental starter, even in the mold of a Hamels of Greinke as teams for those respective players are not targeting the Pirates in trade talks.
The Pirates focus at least from the standpoint of trying to land a top-3 starter is on Boston's Jon Lester, Chicago's Matt Garza and Tampa Bay's James Shields, pitchers who would be around past the 2012 season.
