Jeff Locke (2-1, 3.74 ERA) pitched six innings of two-hit ball and Gaby Sanchez homered off Cole Hamels in the eighth inning to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates (11-9) to a 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies (9-12) on Tuesday night.
Locke (2-1) whose spot in the rotation is hanging by a thread, had his best outing of the season, striking out six and walking two. Locke retired the last eight batters he faced, striking out three of the final four batters.
Sanchez for the second time in three games, homered, and also doubled, while Brandon Inge making his Pirates debut, had an RBI double to deep center in the fourth inning.
Jason Grilli pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his 8th save is now 8-for-8 in save opportunities. Mark Melancon earned his 7th hold of the season.
