The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed third round pick Jon Sandfort, the team announced. The signing of Sandfort makes it 10 draft picks who have officially signed and soon to be 11 as the the Pirates agreed to terms with OF Barrett Barnes today, the 45th overall selection in the MLB draft. Barnes signing is expected to be official on Friday after he takes a physical.
Sandfort, a high school RHP, posted an 8-1 record along with a 0.92 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 68.2 innings of work as a senior this year at Winter Springs, Florida. He Was named a Rawlings third-team preseason All-American this year and a Rawlings and Perfect Game preseason Florida Regional High School Senior First Team entering 2012.
