The Pittsburgh Pirates have reached an agreement with Mexican pitching prospect Luis Heredia, according to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Heredia will receive a signing bonus of $2.6 million but Heredia will only receive 25% of the bonus.
Heredia’s former team, Veracruz, will keep 75% of the bonus ($1.95MM) and Heredia will keep 25% ($650K). The Pirates will make an official announcement later today.
Heredia’s fast ball reaches 92-93 and he throws four pitches.
