Pirates swept by Atlanta

  • Inside the numbers:
  • In the three-game set, the Pirates were outhit, 30-17, and outscored, 19-6.
  • The Pirates 3-5 hitters ( Laroche, Bay, Nady) went a combined 3-32 in the 3 game series.
    Maholm (5-12) went six innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on eight hits.
  • The Pirates haved allowed a run in the first inning in each of its last five games. The Braves improved to 29-12 against the Pirates at Turner Field.
    The Pirates placed third baseman Jose Bautista on the 15-day disabled list and activated Torres from the DL. Torres pitched 1 inning surrendering 1 hit and 1 earned run. The Pirates also purchased the contract of rookie infielder Don Kelly from Triple-A Indianapolis and designated reliever John Wasdin for assignment.
  • The Pirates (40-51) return to PNC park for a three game set against the Colorado Rockies ( 45-46). The Pirates have held discussions with the Rockies about center fielder Ryan Spilborghs.
