PIRATES ACQUIRE YANKEES CATCHER FRANCISCO CERVELLI
The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired catcher Francisco Cervelli from the New York Yankees in exchange for pitcher Justin Wilson, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports first reported. Cervelli, 28, hit .301/.370/.432 with 2 home runs and 13 RBI in 146 at-bats for the Yankees in 2014.

Cervelli made $700,000 in 2014 and is arbitration eligible. His salary projects to be $1.1 million in 2015. Cervelli is a career .278 hitter and is insurance for the likelihood of the Pirates losing Russell Martin. Cervelli is regarded as an excellent defensive catcher.
