Florida International's Mario Christobal is not the leading candidate to be the next head coach at Pitt and has not been offered the job as of late this evening. With concerns about Christobal being a short-term coach, the search committee and AD Steve Pederson have moved in another direction and are closing in on hiring Wisconsin Offensive Coordinator Paul Chryst who has widely been considered a much safer choice. Chryst interviewed for the job on Saturday and quickly emerged as a front runner after Paul Rhoads made it known he was staying at Iowa State. As of this afternoon, Pitt officials were extremely optimistic that the school would be introducing a new coach by Friday afternoon.
