The University of Pittsburgh today fired head football coach Dave Wannstedt. Wannstedt was informed that he was being let go just after 2:00 p.m. today.
Pitt finished with a 7-5 record and will play in the BBVA Compass Bowl on January 8, 2011.
Offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti will be named interim coach.
