Pitt head coach Dave Wannstedt met with the media and had a few news and notes that might interest Pitt football fans:
*Senior tight end John Pelusi and junior defensive end Doug Fulmer will not be returning to the team due to injuries.
Chronic knee injuries are forcing Fulmer to call it quits and Pelusi isn’t going to be able to recover from a shoulder injury suffered last year. Pitt has quality depth at defensive end and will be able to replace Fulmer.
After Nate Byham and Dorin Dickerson, the Panthers are very inexperienced at tight end.
*The eligibility of one of Pitt’s top incoming recruits is still in question. Blue chip recruit Todd Thomas is still waiting word as to whether he’ll be eligible for the 2009 season.
If he’s not academically qualified, Thomas is expected to attend Milford Academy (Berlin, NY).
*Wannstedt’s response to the criticism the program has received regarding their recruiting: “We’re excited about recruiting. We’re going to have a great class, I’m very confident about that,” he said. “We’re right where we need to be. I feel better about this class coming up than I did about the last two.”
