SOME PLAYERS NOTES AND STATISTICS FROM PENS – FLYERS
***Sidney Crosby picked up a goal and an assist giving him 6 goals and 8 assists in seven games played. Crosby has 73 points in 44 career games vs Flyers. However, it was a rare night for Crosby in faceoff circle (12-33, 36%). 3-10 (30%) offensive zone draws, 3-14 (21%) defensive zone draws.
*** Pascal Dupuis continues to get better with age. 2 assists tonight and now has 2 goals and 6 assists this season. In his last 82 regular season games, Dupuis has collected 35 goals and 39 assists for 74 points and a plus-44 rating.
*** Players will say hits are rarely an accurate stat and depend on the venue but Tanner Glass was credited with a game high 10 hits tonight. Glass played 10:30 at even strength and 12:16 overall. That’s a player doing his job.
***The Penguins had 23 blocked shots, marking the third straight game the team has recorded 20 blocked shots or more. Rob Scuderi had a team-high 5 blocked shots, followed by Paul Martin with 4. A product of this continues to be the Penguins new defensive structure.
*** Olli Maatta appearing in his 7th game, played a career high 16:51 and continues to show no flaws in his game. This kid is the real deal.
***Robert Bortuzzo returned to the lineup, played 11:58 and pounded Kris Newberry in a fight after delivering a punishing hit on Zac Rinaldo in the offensive zone than prompted the hit. Bortuzzo had 4 hits and continues to play with an edge in his game.
*** Matt Niskanen a team-high 6 shots on goal and was a +2 in the win. Niskanen is a +10 on the season.
*** Harry Zolnierczyk had an effect game. He was fast on pucks and drew a penalty in the first period by driving to the net. Zolnierczyk played 10:04.
