Practice Session Notes

Ben, Grisham hookup for big plays
Ben Roethlisberger primarily ran a controlled passing game during the team session with short shots to Brown and Miller before uncorking a long pass to Tyler Grisham for about a 60-yard touchdown.
Grisham beat Mundy to the inside, and he never caught up. He and Grisham also hooked up for a 20-yard gain, as Taylor came up from his cornerback spot, but missed the ball.
6-foot-8 Lyons making things happen

Backup quarterback Byron Leftwich fired two high fastballs for 25-yard pickups that only 6-foot-8 former West Virginia wideout Wes Lyons could pull in. Lyons would run a crossing route, and Leftwich picked him up as he came open.
Defensive Play of the Day
The defensive play of the day came from second-year inside linebacker Stevenson Sylvester, who read a draw to Mewelde Moore and blasted him for a big loss. Sylvester hopes to get more playing time this year in the base defense.
Play in the trenches
The featured period again was the play in the trenches, as Pouncey battled Hoke to a stalemate.
Aaron Smith and Foster split their two reps against each other…..
Colon manhandled Chris Ellis in his one rep, but Hills couldn’t do the same with Jason Worilds either time. First, Worilds used superior speed to get around Hills, and the second time he bull-rushed him backward.
Rookies Cam Heyward and Keith Williams, the first- and sixth-round picks, respectively, battled twice with Williams getting the advantage both times. Williams has been one to take advantage of early reps with the first team.
Ziggy Hood beat Chris Scott both times they faced off, as Hood’s quickness prevailed on both occasions.
