The Nashville Predators have announced that the team has matched the Philadelphia Flyers 14 year, $110 million offer sheet they gave to Predators captain Shea Weber. The official announcement can be read at the Predators official site.
The Predators matching is a big blow to the Flyers who have now struck out on Weber, Zach Parise, Ryan Suter and Rick Nash this summer. The Flyers though are unlikely to stay put but there’s no Shea Weber out there on the blueline.
Flyers GM Paul Holmgren released a statement on the team’s official twitter feed saying “In tendering an offer sheet to Shea Weber, we were trying to add a top defenseman entering the prime of his career. With Nashville matching our offer, we wish Shea and the Predators all the best.”
