Steelers announce pre-season schedule
The Pittsburgh Steelers pre-season schedule was announced today. The team will have four games.
The Steelers will open up the pre-season at home against the Detroit Lions and their first road game will be against the New York Giants in the Giants new stadium.
The Steelers will play on the road for their third game on August 29th against the Denver Broncos.
The Steelers finish up the pre-season with a Thursday night game at home against the Carolina Panthers.
Pro-day buzz
The Pittsburgh Steelers had two representatives at Texas pro-day this morning, according to a team source.
The Steelers top target at Texas pro-day was safety/cornerback Earl Thomas (5-10, 202 lbs) who is one of the most dynamic playmakers in the 2010 draft. I’m told at least one Steelers representative met with Thomas on Tuesday afternoon.
Thomas is being scouted by teams as a cornerback and a safety. Thomas is a ballhawk who had 8 interceptions last season.
The Steelers are looking at Thomas as a cornerback with their first round selection but he’s so versatile that he could play the nickle and play safety if there was an injury to Polamalu or Clark.
Whether Thomas makes it to the No. 18 selection remains to be seen. He is viewed by some evaluators as going anywhere from the No. 10 selection to No. 20.
Some scouts regard him as a top-10 talent that won’t be drafted in the top-10.
Thomas reportedly had a very strong workout today.
After running a 4.48 forty-yard dash at the combine, Thomas reportedly ran a 4.37 forty this morning, according to NFL.com
The Steelers also stuck around for quarterback Colt McCoy’s workout, a team source confirmed.
