The Penguins report to training camp in seven days. Inside Pittsburgh Sports gives you the latest rumblings

The emails were flying around today connecting Brendan Shanahan to the Pittsburgh Penguins. A source indicated Shanahan was seen with Lemieux and Crosby at a hospitality tent at the U.S. Open. My main source puts the percentages at less than 25% that Shanahan would end up in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh’s interest has been suspect and Shanahan’s focus remains with the Rangers.
Shero wants to see what he has first before offering a guaranteed contract to anybody
It’s being speculated that forward Glen Murray has been working out with a Penguins player and a Penguin scout has also been involved. Info has been sketchy but the player being rumored is Brooks Orpik.
The Pens have talked to agents of a couple of veteran players and have offered tryouts. No names right now but a source confirmed it‚Äôs not Glen Murray. I’ll try to get some confirmation on some names later in the week
Expect a lot of Jordan Staal trade talk from the outside media this season but he’s not going anywhere. The Penguins are also looking at Jordan Staal on the wing again. Staal has done some special off-season training to prepare for a wing position.
