The on again-off again trade between the New York Rangers and Calgary Flames is official according to TSN.ca, as Olli Jokinen and Brandon Prust are heading to Broadway in exchange for Chris Higgins and Ales Kotalik.
According to reports, the holdup wasn't Ales Kotalik's no trade clause but it was the Flames wanting Olli Jokinen to play in Monday night's game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Jokinen did play and the trade was official after the Flames loss.
Jokinen in the final year of his contract, is having a disappointing year as the 31-year old veteran has 11 goals and 24 assists in 56 games with the Flames this season.
However, the Rangers get their top line center that they have been seeking and unload Ales Kotalik who has been a healthy scratch of late and has two years left on his contract worth $6 million.
The decision to move Jokinen and take on Kotalik's contract is seen as another odd move by the Flames.
In 45 games with the Rangers, Kotalik had eight goals and 14 assists.
For the Rangers, this is a very good move. They desperately need a playmaking center alongside Marian Gaborik and Jokinen has the ability to fill that void.
