Rays avoid sweep, beat Yankees 7-5

Rays All Star pitcher Scott Kazmir allowed one hit in six scoreless innings and the Rays’ bullpen held off a late Yankees rally to avoid a three game sweep. The Yankees trail the Rays by 11 games in the division and Boston by 7 1/2 in the wild-card race.

Third baseman Willy Aybar has five homers and 16 RBI’s in 23 games since taking over for Rays thirdbaseman Evan Longoria. Yankees RF Bobby Abreu was scratched because of a jammed left wrist. The Yankees are on the brink of missing the playoffs for the first time since 1995. The Yanks have been struck with injuries all season and the injury Chien-Ming Wang was the downfall of the Yankees season. Hank steinbreiner will have the Yankees very active in the off-season. Among the Yankees top targets will be C.C Sabathia and A.J. Burnett.
