CALIFORNIA (Jan. 11) â€“ A record 240 California University of Pennsylvania student-athletes, representing all sports (fall, winter and spring), were named to the Fall 2010 edition of the Athletic Director Honor Roll. For the ninth-consecutive semester, the Cal U athletic programs compiled a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher.
To be eligible for the academic honor, student-athletes must earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the semester. Tennis posted the highest team GPA at 3.578 and featured 10 players on the Honor Roll. On the menâ€™s side, the soccer team posted the top GPA of the eight sports at 3.184 with 20 players holding a 3.0 GPA or better. Overall, the Vulcans posted a cumulative GPA of 3.113 last semester.
In terms of pure numbers, football led all sports with 46 representatives on the Honor Roll, followed by womenâ€™s track & field (38) and womenâ€™s cross country (28). Tennis led all programs with 91 percent (10-of-11) of its team on the Honor Roll, followed by menâ€™s soccer (83 percent; 20-of-24) and womenâ€™s soccer and swimming (both 79 percent).
