Latest Penguin Buzz……
As of this afternoon the Calgary Flames and Pittsburgh Penguins have broken off talks about a potential trade where Robin Regher would be traded to Pittsburgh in exchange for Brooks Orpik a 2nd round pick and a unknown roster player a source close to the situation has told me. The Flames are willing to move Regher but believe the offers they have received are not worth moving Regher at this time despite the possibility of losing Regher to free agency following the 07-08 season. A report in Canada says the Flames have received up to 3 offers regarding Robin Regher. Talks with the Penguins are at a stalemate, The Penguins are obviously exploring all their options but all signs point towards the Penguins exploring the free agent market before pursuing any trades past preliminary talks
Despite speculation that Sharks defenseman Scott Hannan will receive a contract of atleast 4-5 million per season, the Penguins will be on the phone with Hannan as soon as free agency begins i have learned.
The Penguins have interest in Vicktor Koslov. Another Russian who is good friends with Sergei Gonchar. Chuck Fletcher is also big fan of Koslov.
Mixed signals on whether the Penguins will make a attempt to sign Paul Kariya but Kariya does have a interest in signing with Pittsburgh according to KDKA. Two weeks ago he did say in a interview on TSN Pittsburgh is a interesting place.
Even if Jason Blake would sign here for 2.5 million, the Penguins have no interest at all. He is a cancer in the locker room i was told today.
Bill Guerin very unlikely…..
Defenseman Danny Markov is not their first choice but he seems like the most logical choice .
Shane Hnidy and Aaron Miller could be last minute options if the Penguins miss out on their potential targets.
Mixed signals on Max Talbot being the long term third line center. He is in the teams long term plans but some in the front office believe the team needs a big third line center who can do it all. Jordan Staal fits that description but he is terrible on draws and needs to be on the top 2 lines.
There is no market for Ryan Malone ……
