NFL Draft Buzz
A source tells Inside Pittsburgh Sports that Oregon’s center Max Unger, Cincinnati’s offensive guard Trevor Canfield and Wake Forest cornerback Alphonso Smith have caught the eye of the Steelers scouting staff.

Unger who the Steelers have rated as the #1 center in the draft has been impressive at the senior bowl and is a strong possibility when the Steelers pick at 31 or 32.
Projection: 1st round
Currently the Steelers have Unger slightly ahead of Cal’s Alex Mack. Mack has also improved his status through the first two days of practice. Mack is another name to keep an eye on.
Guard Trevor Canfield has had a very good first two days of practice at the senior bowl. Canfield has a reputation for being a nasty, fierce competitor and has been dominant in practice. Canfield excels at run blocking and may pass up Duke Robinson on the Steelers draft board.
Projection: 2nd-3rd round
Cornerback Alphonso Smith is a player the Steelers have rated very high. Smith shows great awareness and would excel in the Steelers system. The Steelers are likely to lose Bryant McFadden and the vibe I’m getting is if Smith is still available when the Steelers pick, he could be their guy.
Projection: 1st round
