Sharks re-sign Patrick Marleau to a 4 year - $27.6 million deal

The San Jose Sharks today announced that the team has re-signed forwards Patrick Marleau and Joe Pavelski.

Marleau's deal is 4 years worth $27.6 million.

The cap hit will be $6.9 million.

“We are very pleased that Patty and Joe have committed to this organization now and in the future,” said GM Doug Wilson in the teams press release. “They expressed a strong belief in the direction this franchise is heading but also understand the challenges to keeping a talented group like ours together.

“Both players had a tremendous regular season, excelled on the ice for their respective countries at the Winter Olympics and elevated their game in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They have solidified their place in the game among the League’s top forwards and we are excited as an organization to have Joe and Patty back in San Jose to build on what we accomplished last season.”

Marleau, 30, recently completed his 12th NHL season, all of which have been played in San Jose. He ranks first on the all-time team’s list in nearly every offensive category, including games played (953), goals (320), assists (373), points (693), power play goals (97), game-winning goals (59) and shots (2,194).

The 30 year forward projected to be one of the most highly coveted forwards on the open market.

Joe Pavelski's deal is 4 years - $16 million.

no jeff, nice attempt at twisting the words. i am saying the mroe time we waste on these gonch negotiations, the less opportunity we have to make other things happen. its not FA so not like boychuk was traded or anything (case you missed it pending free agents cannot be signed by other teams until july 1, catch up)

I know how this works, that's why what you said was pretty stupid. How is Gonchar holding up anything? They aren't just sitting in a room with him and his agent negotiating back and forth for 24 hours a day. They are still talking to other players, teams, etc. If I remember correctly they were able to sign Lovejoy and Cooke with the nonstop Gonchar negotiations going on.
