No talks took place on Monday
Contract talks between Penguins GM Ray Shero and J.P. Barry the agent for Sergei Gonchar intensified late last week with negotiations continuing into the weekend.
However, according to multiple sources, the two sides are not close to a new deal.
Negotiations have not broken off but no talks took place today and according to contacts in Gonchar’s camp (as of 3:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon), no talks at this point are currently scheduled for tomorrow or the rest of the week.

Shero and Barry are both departing for Los Angeles in the coming days. If something was close, negotiations would have continued today and there was no contact between the two sides today.
It is a certainty that Shero and Barry will speak in Los Angeles but there continues to be word out of Penguins headquarters that Shero wants some kind of clarity on this situation by Thursday or Friday at the latest.
All signs point towards Gonchar not coming down on his demands of a multi-year deal worth close or upwards of $5 million per season.
