Special teams coach Amos Jones who has been with the team since 2007, is leaving the organization and joining Bruce Arians staff in Arizona to be the Cardinals special teams coach.
Jones was an associate/special teams coach from 2007-2011 and was elevated to special teams coach this summer when Al Everest was fired suddenly during training camp.
The Steelers struggled on special teams this season and it was expected that the Steelers wouldn’t be bringing Jones back, despite being very close with Mike Tomlin. The Steelers ranked 22nd in punt return averaged allowed and 17th in kickoff return average allowed. In the return game, Pittsburgh was 9th in kickoff returns and 28th in punt returns, averaging just 7.3 yards per punt return.
