Game Day Buzz
*The Penguins and Calgary Flames meet for the only time this season at Scotiabank Saddledome.
Pittsburgh is coming off a 4-3 shootout win Thursday night vs the Vancouver Canucks. Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin led the Penguins to victory, scoring on Pittsburgh’s first two shootout attempts. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 33 of 36 shots in regulation and both shootout attempts he faced to earn the win. Pittsburgh jumped out to leads of 2-0 and 3-1 on Vancouver thanks to a power-play marker from James Neal and two goals from Matt Cooke....one on the power play and the other shorthanded. Letang finished with two assists.
*The Flames failed to make the playoffs in 2010-2011 but won 23 of their final 36 games, making a late push for the playoffs.
*The Penguins are a team you don't want to get into a shootout with. They are 19-5 in their last 24 shootouts. Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury has stopped 10 straight attempts dating back to last season. He is 6-0 in his last six shootouts, stopping 16 of the 17 shots he has faced.
*Pittsburgh has won four straight road games dating back to a 4-2 win at Florida on April 2 of last season. The Penguins have also won four consecutive games against the Flames, including their previous two visits to Calgary.
*During their four-game winning streak against the Flames, the Penguins have been excellent defensively, surrendering a total of just four goals.
Marc Andre Fleury has been a big part of that. In four games against Calgary, Fleury is 2-1 all-time with a 1.30 GAA. Fleury had a 31-save shutout on March 25, 2009 at Mellon Arena and helped lead the Penguins to a 4-1 victory against the Flames last season on November 27th, highlighted by a 30 save effort.
*Since 2000-01 the Penguins are 7-2-1 against the Flames. The Flames last beat the Penguins on December 3, 2005, a Flames 3-2 win at the Mellon Arena. Calgary's last win vs Pittsburgh in Calgary was on December 7, 2003 (6-1 Flames win).
*Success without Crosby: The Penguins are 24-13-5 in their last 42 games without their star center.
