A reunion for William Gay and the Steelers? The veteran cornerback who was released by the Arizona Cardinals, will be visiting the Steelers on Monday, agent Jerrold Colton tells Inside Pittsburgh Sports.com.
Since Gay’s release, there’s been immediate discussions between the two sides with mutual interest expressed, and the Steelers have interest in signing Gay to provide depth and possible insurance if the team is unable to resign Keenan Lewis.
If Lewis were to sign elsewhere, Gay could very well go into the season as the Steelers No. 3 cornerback behind Ike Taylor and Cortez Allen. Prior to Gay signing with Arizona last season, there had also been brief internal discussions among Steelers brass about Gay being moved to safety.
Colton indicated Sunday evening just after 6:00 p.m. that there is no deal yet between the Steelers and Gay, despite Gay changing his twitter profile to being a cornerback with the “Pittsburgh Steelers”. Gay also has a visit scheduled with the Tennessee Titans and has drawn early interest from the Denver Broncos, but it remains to be seen whether he makes those visits.
Gay’s visit with Pittsburgh is Monday and a deal could be finalized as early as Monday afternoon if Gay’s physical checks out.
Gay, 28, showed some playmaking ability in Arizona with 2 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles in 16 games. Gay had just 3 interceptions in 80 games with the Steelers from 2007-2011.
