Steelers address critical need

[hide] The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed tight end Eric Ebron to a 2 year, $12 million contract, according to the NFL Network.

Ebron who has great size and athleticism, had 66 catches and 13 touchdowns in 2018 with the Colts when Andrew Luck was under center for Indianapolis. With no Luck in 2019, Ebron’s numbers dipped to 31 receptions for 375 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The signing of Ebron adds an intriguing 1-2 punch at tight end with Ebron and Vance McDonald in creating a number of matchup problems for opposing defenses. The Steelers believe McDonald will be a different player in 2020 with Ben Roethlisberger expected back.

What the short-term signing of Ebron also does is have implications on what direction the Steelers will likely go in round 2 of the draft. Tight end becomes much less of a significant need. [/hide]
