Steelers Buzz As Mike Tomlin always says, a win is a win.
That’s the best way for the Steelers to look at their less than impressive 17-9 win that saw the offense score only 10 points against a really bad Jacksonville Jaguars team.
“That is the appropriate response to present circumstance, to go out and get a winning performance,” Tomlin said on the Steelers 17-9 win. “I liked the way we finished, especially when you consider that we didn’t do a good job of it last week and it cost us the game. The defense went out and had a necessary stop in the latter part and created a turnover and put points on the board.
Brice McCain provided the big play in the secondary with a pick-6 to pretty much put rookie QB Blake Bortles and the Jaguars away.
Jacksonville with six offensive rookies in the lineup, couldn’t finish drives and Pittsburgh came up with the game changing play. The defense played a bend but don’t break game and stepped up with two takeaway’s and limited the Jaguars to 3-12 on 3rd downs.
However, all was not good with the Steelers.
They took seven penalties, were offside twice in a row on an attempt kickoff, had a veteran wide receiver in Lance Moore jawing with his head coach — the Moore signing isn’t going as planned
For the Steelers, though, yesterday’s primary disappointment was with the offense. They continue to be a yardage offense not a offense that can outscore and put teams away. Ben Roethlisberger completed passes to 11 different players but the dink and dunk inside the 25 just isn’t getting it done.
Pittsburgh went a woeful 1-4 in the red zone and had a turnover. The lack of big receiver continues to hinder this team is that critical area.
The Steelers are a mediocre to average football team, but they are a 3-2 football team, have a soft schedule with several winnable games remaining where the Steelers record has a chance to be a lot better than the team really is.
If it results in a wild card berth, few probably won’t care, but it will again have management thinking this team is closer than it really is and the Steelers appear likely to remain stagnant in that 8-8, 9-7 range.
