Steelers release of Larry Foote was more about team believing he doesn’t have much left in tank

larry-foote3 The Pittsburgh Steelers release of Larry Foote today was more about the Steelers believing Foote doesn’t have much left in the tank, than the release only being made for cap reasons. Foote who counted just $1.83 million against the cap (Steelers save $1.3 million), was released today along with Levi Brown and Curtis Brown. Foote tore his biceps in the season opener vs the Tennessee Titans. Foote played 11 of 12 seasons with the Steelers and started 104-of-158 regular season games played and 10-of-16 postseason games during his career with the Steelers.
The middle linebacker position remains an area that has a lot of question marks for the Steelers. Steelers coaches were happy with the progress from rookie Vince Williams but he’s unlikely to develop into an impact linebacker. The Steelers still have no idea if Sean Spence will make it fully back or what they really have in him.
The Steelers have a strong desire to team Lawrence Timmons with a dominant linebacker inside while he is still in his prime. Alabama’s C.J. Mosley could emerge as a first round target for the Steelers.
