Steelers nab Miami cornerback

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected a cornerback in the first round for the first time in 19 years, drafting Miami’s Artie Burns (6-0, 193).
Burns just 20 years old had 36 tackles and 6 interceptions for Miami in 2015. He’s long and rangy with great ball skills and runs well (4.40 forty).
The draft board saw several defensive backs linked to the Steelers go before pick No. 25 with the Cincinnati Bengals pulling a Ravens/Maxx Williams and jumping ahead of the Steelers to take William Jackson III at No. 24.
Eli Apple went 10th overall to the Giants, West Virginia’s Karl Joseph going 14th overall to Oakland. [/hide]
Mixed reaction on Steelers taking Artie Burns. – I have a hard time calling him a reach. If they take Mackensie Alexander, who was (and is still) available, you’re not hearing anything about them reaching for a CB, so they clearly had Burns ranked higher. – The reason im not thrilled with the pick: not sure if he can help the team this year. Dude has raw ability, but his technique is as bad as Sams English. He could end up being a very good cover corner, but sounds like hell need some time to get there. – At the… Read more »
Also, really like Burns’s size, athleticism and ball skills. Continue to improve the pass rush and let the playmaker make plays.
I won’t be shocked if they they try and get their hands on Billings. They didn’t replace McClendon in free agency and McCullers can’t possibly start.
McCullers wont start, because they rarely played with a NT last year. But if they get their hands on a capable pass rusher like Billings, that could change.
As soon as I read Simply Dusty’s comment, I thought “he is basically calling him a possible hall of famer” even Simply Dusty doesn’t even understand what his own mind is saying. Eagerly awaiting his take on the 2nd RD tonight
I think he’s another Ike Taylor, just not as dumb and actually has really good ball skills and hands. I think they take Jackson in 3 seconds if he was still there.
A smart Ike Taylor with hands is a borderline Hall of Famer. Is that your projection?
Ike Taylor wasn’t even a Pro Bowler….that’s quite a leap. Burns will be a pro bowl cb after a few dev years.
He was a borderline shutdown CB in his prime, whos lack of interceptions or noticeably gamechanging plays kept him out of the annual name game.
I agree NPL. But I have to believe they wanted / rated Jackson over Burns and shame on them for not jumping ahead of Cincinnati. Maybe a better secondary in long run with Burns but no way better than last year’s mediocre group.
Maatta doesn’t look ready.
No. Him and Murray looked like rancid assholle
Hot goalie!!!
He hasn’t looked good the last 2 months, Maatta that is. Think Schultz gets in next game?
Team played well despite the captain not showing up
Another game. Another goose egg for Canadian goal scoring.
Right on cue. Wait for Same to post a grammatical mess.
Sam will be more passive aggressive and youll see a series of “-1’s” on our comments.
I got you back to minus 1
Sam didnt like that.
Murray looks ready
Can’t have 2 bad goals in one game. I guess that’s stating the obvious though, I thought overall we looked pretty good. A couple really bad defensive breakdowns and a couple bad ones by Murray. Let’s just hope he puts it behind him.
Should have stolen that game. That’s a bad loss.
Milbury agrees with you.
Jason Mackey labeled Artie Burns as the “X Factor” for the Steelers, and calling some of his tape “disgustingly good” in his CB preview last week. Good reporting.
All these trades behind us, we couldn’t drop back, pick up an extra pick and still get Burns?
Bengals didnt jump ahead…
lol don’t worry, he’ll edit that later
Maybe D has the inside scoop that the Bengals traded with the Bengals to get ahead of the Steelers. Sly move.
