The Pittsburgh Steelers and former San Francisco 49ers special teams coach Al Everest have agreed to a three year deal with a team option for a 4th year to become the Steelers new special teams coordinator.
Everest will replace Bob Ligashesky who was fired earlier this month. An official announcement is expected Wednesday morning.
The 49ers had the 32nd punt return unit in 2009, however, Everest is highly regarded around the league for his kick coverage teams. In 2009, San Francisco ranked 10th in kick coverage in 2009 and 19th in punt coverage.

Meanwhile, Randy Fichtner has moved from wide receivers coach to quarterbacks coach, the team announced this afternoon.
Fichtner was hired by Mike Tomlin in 2007.
In other coaching news, Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that former Steelers linebackers Earl Holmes and Jerry Olsavsky are candidates for the Steelers defensive assistant position.
