The Pittsburgh Steelers have informed agent Doug Hendrickson that the team will be officially placing the franchise tag on LaMarr Woodley today.
The move has been expected but neither side will explore a long-term deal before the CBA expires on March 3rd.
Woodley, 26, made just $550,000 in the final year of his rookie contract. Including playoffs, Woodley had 60 tackles, 13 sacks and two interceptions.
The franchise tag for linebackers is projected to be $10.2 million in 2011. However, it is not certain that franchise tags will be available in the new CBA as the NFLPA is looking to get rid of the tags.
