Per Bob Labriola of Steelers.com, the Steelers have signed WR David Gilreath from practice squad to the 53-man roster for tonight’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. To make room for Gilreath, the Steelers waived troubled rookie NT Alameda Ta’amu, the team’s 4th round pick. Ta’amu recently came off a two week suspension last week after his wild run in with the law last month. He is currently facing multiple charges and will go to trial. The Steelers are expected to sign Ta’amu to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Gilreath will serve as the No. 4 receiver and had a strong training camp where he pushed for the No. 5 receiver spot but the team opted to only carry four receivers as Tood Haley doesn’t use 4+ receiver sets to the extent that former offensive coordinator Bruce Arians did.
The Steelers will be without top receiver Antonio Brown (ankle) for the next 2-3 weeks.
