PITTSBURGH — Thanks to Ben Roethlisberger’s passing prowess, the Pittsburgh Steelers lead the NFL in total offensive yardage through two games, 18th in rushing and second in passing.
This week’s opponent, the St. Louis Rams, are 18th in total defense. They are 10th against the pass, but a whopping 30th against the run, as only two teams have allowed more than their 153 yards per game on the ground.
“I believe the majority of that comes on a handful of plays, but that’s how it is when you’ve got guys rushing the passer like they do,” Steelers center Cody Wallace said. “They get into the backfield and make some plays, but you also can give up a few. And that’s what they’ve done in the opening two games.”
Steelers offensive guard Ramon Foster believed that some of the success of the Rams defensive line has also worked against them at times.
