Storylines setting up for first 24/7 Penguins-Capitals HBO show on Dec. 15

As HBO is in it’s first week of filming for Wednesday night’s (Dec. 15) first show of 24/7, an interesting story line is appearing.
The Washington Capitals (18-9-3-39pts) tonight dropped their 4th straight game as Florida’s Tomas Vokoun stopped 36 shots to earn his third shutout of the season, in a 3-0 Panthers win over the Capitals.
The Capitals were 0-for-8 on the power play and have also lost their last three at home.
Meanwhile, Pittsburgh was idle tonight and enter Friday’s action with the best record in the NHL at 20-8-2-42pts and a league best 11 game winning streak as the club marches on to that exclusive 17 game winning streak set by the Penguins in 1993.
The first show is setting up for fans to see great behind the scenes action on the Penguins impressive streak, the Capitals late funk and Sidney Crosby’s Lemieux like run.

HBO Sports’ groundbreaking “24/7” reality franchise, which has captured 12 Sports Emmy® Awards, joins forces with the National Hockey League to take viewers inside one of the NHL’s great rivalries, between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals, for 24/7 PENGUINS/CAPITALS: ROAD TO THE NHL WINTER CLASSIC.
Debuting WEDNESDAY, DEC. 15 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO, with an immediate encore at 11:00 p.m., the four-week, all-access series follows the two teams as they meet twice in a span of nine days, including the highly anticipated 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Heinz Field, played outdoors at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh on New Year’s Day.

Head coaches Bruce Boudreau of Washington and Dan Bylsma of Pittsburgh, along with a host of key players, including the Caps’ Alex Ovechkin and the Pens’ Sidney Crosby, are in the spotlight as the two clubs battle through their busy December schedules.
Other episodes of 24/7 PENGUINS/CAPITALS: ROAD TO THE NHL WINTER CLASSIC debut on subsequent Wednesdays — Dec. 22 and 29, and Jan. 5 — at 10:00 p.m.
The series finale debuts four days after the Classic, with cameras tracking all the drama and excitement surrounding the Capitals and Penguins on game day. All four episodes will have multiple replay dates on HBO, and the series will also be available on HBO On Demand.
