Insider Only Tom Brady’s former backup Brian Hoyer to workout for Steelers but Matt Kafka considered favorite to be signed

The Pittsburgh Steelers are planning to bring in two to three quarterbacks on Tuesday morning. Two of the QB’s known to be headed to Pittsburgh to workout for the team tomorrow is Matt Kafka and Brian Hoyer. Kafka, 25, coming out of Northwestern, was the Eagles 4th round pick in 2010 and was expected to go into this season as the No. 2 quarterback behind Mike Vick but Kafka was surpassed by Nick Foles on the depth chart and unable to beat out Trent Edwards for the No. 3 QB job. Kafka had a quarterback rating of 23.1, with no touchdowns and one interception in the 2012 preseason and was released on Aug. 31, 2012. ESPN calls him the early favorite to sign with the Steelers.
Hoyer, 27, out of Michigan State was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2009 by the New England Patriots and spent three seasons with New England (2009-2011). Hoyer was Tom Brady’s primary backup in 2011, but was released this summer in training camp. Hoyer has thrown 43 career passes in the NFL, completing 27 of 43 passes for 286 yards and 1 touchdown and 1 interception.
Meanwhile, the Steelers did look into Dennis Dixon according to Jason LaCanfora of CBSsports. Dixon who is signed to the Ravens practice squad, opted against working out for the Steelers. The Steelers are believed to have little interest in signing Tyler Palko.
