nhl_g_vokoun_d1_576 Penguins goaltender Tomas Vokoun is off blood thinners for a week and will skate tomorrow before the Penguins morning skate, head coach Dan Bylsma said after today’s practice in Southpointe.
Vokoun has been sidelined since training camp and will be able to start taking shots when his levels get back to normal, according to Bylsma.
Vokoun last season replaced a struggling Marc Andre Fleury in the post-season and led the Penguins to the Eastern Conference Finals, going 6-5 with a 2.01 GAA and .933 save percentage in 11 post-season starts.
In Vokoun’s absence this season, the Penguins have received solid goaltending from backup Jeff Zatkoff who is 7-2-1 with a 2.67 GAA and .906 save percentage. Zatkoff received a two year extension in December but he’s still not a goaltender the Penguins would trust were Fleury to falter again in the playoffs.

Overall this is positive news for Vokoun and the team but the sense is we’re probably a month away from the team knowing if Vokoun’s going to have a chance (health wise) to play this season.
