Mendenhall to become the Steelers featured back?

Rashard Mendenhall’s breakout performance against San Diego has been the talk of the town this week. Mendenhall rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns against San Diego, breaking runs for big plays and also getting the tough yards that Pittsburgh hasn’t been able to get for the past couple seasons.
Why the Steelers will move to Rashard Mendenhall being their featured back is that he gives the Steelers a better opportunity for manageable third downs. He’s the type of back that Bruce Arians wants in his offense.
The big decision for the Steelers moving forward will be how they will share carries between Willie Parker and Mendenhall.
Parker won’t be tossed aside.
Tomlin indicated today that the “ball is in Rashard’s hands” as Parker will be limited again this week with turf toe.
All signs point towards Mendenhall being the featured back this week. Going up against Detroit, another big game is likely in store and it’s going to be difficult for the Steelers to keep Mendenhall off the field.
