PITTSBURGH 2 – PHILADELPHIA 1 OT
Tyler Kennedy (5) scored 2:33 into overtime leading the Pittsburgh Penguins (25-8-0, 50 pts) to a 2-1 overtime win over the Philadelphia Flyers (13-16-2, 28 pts) on Sunday night. The win extends the Penguins winning streak to 12 games.
Kennedy whose spot in the top-9 could be up in the air with the addition of Brenden Morrow, fired a shot from the left dot beating Ilya Bryzgalov blocker side to cap off another win for the Penguins.
Kennedy with time and space took a pass from Matt Niskanen, faked a shot and then rifled the shot past Bryzgalov for his 5th of the season. On the goal, Pascal Dupuis provided a net-front presence, just minutes after being leveled from behind late in regulation on a non-call.
The Penguins rallied in the third period when Sidney Crosby (14) tied the game at 1-1 with a power play goal at 13:46 of the third period.
Marc Andre Fleury made 27 saves to record the win and made some big stops down the stretch. Fleury’s 17 wins are tops in the league.
The Penguins have given up two goals or less in eight straight games and we’re seeing a trend of the Penguins blocking a lot more shots. Mark Eaton had a team-high 4 blocked shots and the Penguins overall had 15 blocked shots in the game.
The Penguins had 35 hits in the game, led by Brooks Orpik (7 hits) and Matt Cooke (6).
With the win, Pittsburgh moves just one point behind the Chicago Blackhawks for the most points in the NHL.
